JSI Reminds Clients to Keep CALEA SSI Plans Current; File Any Updates in the FCC’s New Electronic Filing System
JSI reminds clients that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules require all providers of voice and broadband services to update System Security and Integrity Plans (SSI Plans) related to their compliance with the Communications for Law Enforcement Act (CALEA) that are filed with the FCC within 90 days following any changes to information contained in a previously filed plan to file with the FCC. According to a recently released order, after June 29, 2023, all new SSI Plans and any updated plans must be filed electronically via its new system, which is available at: https://www.fcc.gov/cefs. Paper filings will no longer be accepted.
Most clients filed their initial SSI Plans in the early to mid 2000’s. Accordingly, we are reaching out to remind carriers that you should make sure that the contacts and affiliated companies in your SSI Plan are up to date and if not, move forward as soon as possible in updating this information. Providers can face a $10,000 fine for each violation or each day of a continuing violation, not to exceed a total of $75,000 for any single act or failure to act.
If you need assistance updating your SSI Plan or have any questions regarding CALEA compliance, please reach out to Hailey Wolff or John Kuykendall. If you elect to file the updates on your own, please send us the most recent copy of your CALEA plan for our files.
