FCC Delays National Emergency Alert System Test
The national Emergency Alert System (EAS) test originally scheduled for Thursday, September 20 has been delayed until Wednesday, October 3 at 2:20 p.m. EDT. The FCC issued a Public Notice late this afternoon delaying the test due to the continuing response to Hurricane Florence. All video and cable TV providers are required to conduct this test and report the results to the FCC (see JSI’s July 24 e-Lert).
This change also will affect the Form Two, “Day of Test” information, deadline to verify receipt and retransmission of EAS message. Form Two will be due by 11:59 p.m. EDT October 3. JSI will be available to help clients file their Form Two response.
Finally, Form Three, providers’ post-test data including the source of the EAS message, the date and time it was received, and if there were any complications in retransmitting the message, will now be due on November 19.
