The telecommunications business is all about timing …

… with its latest porting rules, the FCC has redefined the timing intervals for local number portability (LNP) – the ability of customers to take their telephone numbers with them to a new local service provider. As the porting process continues to evolve, independent providers must be careful to watch the clock and adhere to intricate LNP rules. If porting triggers panic and anxiety in you and your staff, JSI offers much-needed assurance – our LNP Services will prepare your company for a brave new LNP world.

JSI’s LNP Services: Timing is Everything

As competition and customer choice drive telecom policy, local number portability has surfaced as a key standard. The FCC’s new LNP rules are accelerating the expansion of CLEC and wireless competitors into rural ILEC markets, but the movement is not without limitations. As a famous Hollywood cop once said, “a man’s got to know his limitations.” Do you know your LNP limitations?

With the FCC changing the intervals in which all carriers must respond to port orders, JSI offers LNP training to ensure your staff is knowledgeable about the requirements that apply to your company and respective porting partners. LNP training can eliminate instances of porting to unauthorized carriers or outside the rules. Through on-site sessions or via LNP webinar, JSI can add to your company’s understanding of the rules, as well as the requirements for each type of company operating within your service area.

In the competitive arena, processes and procedures remain important. As your company ports numbers out of its network, your LNP business rules serve to educate other carriers about your procedures and processes. JSI can design business rules specific to your company to ensure you are porting according to the regulations. In addition, you must be sure to have appropriate LNP forms before beginning to port. Simple ports will soon require the use of standardized request fields, and companies must be prepared to process simple port requests within the FCC’s mandated one-business-day interval. As the FCC’s policymaking indicates, the LNP rules are not static, so we also offer an LNP refresher course to provide an overview of the porting process and rules, such as the new one-business-day interval for simple ports that begins for JSI clients on Feb. 2, 2011.

The time is coming when competitors will be porting out your customers under the new rules. Take advantage of JSI’s decade of LNP experience to prove once again that timing is everything and that you are porting within your limitations and fully compliant with all the rules.
