For JSI clients and independent telecom providers across the land, the long wait is over. Congress and the FCC have begun to reconsider some fundamental policy and regulatory tenets, in hopes of hastening the expected economic benefits of broadband, VoIP, IPTV, and other technology-triggered advances. Thus, community based companies do what they've always done - provide quality service to their customers, even as they investigate potential opportunities and promote policies that recognize the harsh realities of providing service in high-cost areas across rural America.
This challenge forces JSI and our client partners to balance the rhetorical world of policy with the real world of business. Such balance lies between what we fight for in the policy arena and the measures we take to ensure sound network investments while remaining cost-effective and profitable. Customers see before them more and more personal applications for the communication, information, and entertainment services they want. As a telecom provider, you must reach a customer base growing more aware of the fruits of competitive choice. As a community based telecom provider, you serve customers and neighbors who are just beginning to understand their power in the market.
Already in 2008, the FCC has set in motion a series of rulings and proposals that could change how you approach your business forever more - issues such as reverse auctions, new USF mechanisms, and 700 MHz auctions that have significant meaning for independent companies. With this in mind, JSI has developed a far-reaching agenda for the 2008 Management Seminar. Indeed, such a variety of issues has emerged that, for the first time, we have included several breakout sessions in our planning. The breakouts will allow you to choose to join our staff professionals for updates on pivotal developments, such as the USAC/OIG audits, CABS and phantom traffic, and FTTH/video business case analysis. And in our traditional general sessions, we'll take a hard look at the video provisioning issues just now coming to bear on clients, as well as regulatory and policy hot topics, with the idea that companies must equip themselves with up-to-date information and awareness if they intend to target the future, rather than rehash the past.
