Accounting Services

Among the key accounting services JSI provides are: general consulting and review of internal accounting systems and procedures; accounting department support; profit center analysis; work order and inventory management; Part 64 (non-regulated) methodology; and cost allocation manual (CAM) development.

JSI offers a comprehensive rate case analysis and representation service, which encompasses: preparation of support documentation, rate design, filing, testimony, and support with data requests.

JSI conducts annual accounting seminars to specifically address and review the technicalities of the FCC’s Part 32/64 accounting mandates. The seminars represent a comprehensive approach to the federal rules and their impact on clients’ business operations, and include: plant accounting, revenue account review, expense accounts, other income accounts, and miscellaneous topics, such as regulatory compliance, broadband accounting, compensated absences, inter-period tax allocation, capitalized leases, FASBs, regulatory fees, and industry issues.

In addition, JSI publishes a detailed Accounting Manual, available in CD-ROM format, which explains various financial and accounting documents and ledgers, including: balance sheets, income statements, non-regulated accounting, and cross-reference index.

Accounting & Financial Software

JSI, through its JSI Solutions division, and the National Information Solutions Cooperative (NISC), based in Mandan, North Dakota, have worked together since 1997 to support accounting software specific to the rural ILEC industry and that conforms to all the requirements of the FCC's Part 32/64 system of accounts.  For most of that time, our focus has been squarely on the Accounting and Financial Software offered by NISC and JSI Solutions.

In 2007, NISC and JSI launched a licensing and marketing partnership that affects how the accounting software is branded, marketed, and supported.  Not only does the software uniquely meet the needs and demands of regulated community based companies and cooperatives, but the package also reflects the diversified, non-regulated businesses companies are exploring - projects such as video, high-speed Internet, wireless, retail operations, and more.  Adding to its value, in the face of current reminders of the importance of accurate accounting and recordkeeping, the software offers assurances for the successful documentation and verification required by recent federal audit activities and disaster planning and recovery.

As we move forward, JSI Solutions and NISC intend to ensure that the software offers clients their best option for the information and analysis on which successful financial and business operations depend.  The alliance enables JSI Solutions to go beyond the accounting package to preview and offer NISC's varied product line; i.e., its well-respected iVUE subscriber information system, end-user billing, and business and engineering solutions.  A comprehensive, fully integrated software system is a must for business operations today, and users must have the assurance that their software is fully compliant with industry standards while still possessing the flexibility to accommodate company-specific demands.

NISC has been providing advanced information technology solutions and services to rural utilities and telephone companies for more than 40 years.  Today, NISC employs nearly 700 technology professionals and serves customers in 47 states with such features as:

  • Advanced integration between NISC's solutions in the iVUE Enterprise System, which sets NISC apart from other IT vendors in the industry;
  • NISC's E-Solution offerings that process more than 500,000 transactions per month, and more than over 6 million per year, with Paymerica and First Data;
  • NISC's payroll solutions that calculate and track an annual payroll of nearly $1 billion for an estimated 20,000 professionals employed by NISC customers across the U.S.

Clients have long relied on JSI's and NISC's services and experience; and as recent events indicate, that role remains no less pivotal to the business and operational continuity of community based telecom providers serving rural America.  If you'd like more information on the JSI-NISC alliance or our software, contact Derek Griffis at 301-459-7590, or e-mail, dgriffis@jsitel.com.
