JSI E-LERT: JSI TO ASSIST CLIENTS WITH PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT TO COMPLY WITH NEW FTC RED FLAG RULES
Webinar Scheduled for Thursday, September 11
As noted in JSI's July 15 e-Lert, most carriers and their non-telecom-related affiliate operations (i.e., video/cable or VoIP service providers) will be required to comply with new Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Identity Theft Prevention rules by November 1. The new requirements are referred to as the "Red Flag" rules because companies must detect, prevent, and mitigate identity theft through the identification of certain activities or "red flags" indicative of potential risks. A key part of the new rules is that companies must adopt a written Identity Theft Prevention Program and train employees on its implementation and maintenance.
Since companies must develop their own Identity Theft Prevention Program, JSI is developing a questionnaire to help clients come up with company-specific business practices, particularly related to the establishment of new accounts and inquiries concerning established accounts. When the questionnaire is completed, it will provide information necessary to draft the written program as required by the FTC rules.
JSI will offer a step-by-step review of the questionnaire, as well as background and general requirements of the Red Flag rules in a webinar scheduled for September 11, from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. (EDT). The cost of the webinar is $249 per company, which includes up to five separate Internet connections per registration. Clients interested in the webinar but unable to attend due to a scheduling conflict, should contact JSI so that we can let you know when the next Red Flag rules webinar will be scheduled.
At the conclusion of the session, participants who would like JSI's assistance in drafting their company's program will be able to provide us with a completed questionnaire that we can use to customize your program. JSI staff will also be available for training via webinar or on-site to assist clients in establishing the required program. Interested clients should note that because the program must be customized for each company, the fees associated with drafting the program and related company-specific training will be based on JSI's hourly rates and are not included in the price of the webinar.
Companies interested in participating in the webinar, should contact John Kuykendall (jkuykendall@jsitel.com) or John Becci (jbecci@jsitel.com) in JSI's Maryland office, at 301-459-7590, or Craig Cook (ccook@jsitel.com) in our Texas office, at 512-338-0473.
