With its latest porting rules, the FCC has reset the timing intervals for local number portability (LNP) - the ability of customers to take their phone numbers with them to a new local service provider. As the porting process continues to evolve, independent providers must be sure to watch the clock and adhere to strict LNP rules and regulations. If porting triggers anxiety and panic in you or your staff, JSI offers much-needed assurance - our LNP Services will prepare your company for a brave new porting world.
JSI's LNP Services
Competition and choice are now expected by customers, and local number portability has become a key standard, endorsed and supported by a series of FCC rulings. The LNP bandwagon has facilitated CLEC and wireless expansion into rural markets, but not without limitations. With the FCC's porting rules and processes varying by company type, JSI offers comprehensive LNP training to make your staff knowledgeable about the rules applicable to your company and others. LNP training, before porting, can eliminate instances of porting outside the rules. Through on-site sessions or via a webinar, JSI can broaden your company's understanding of LNP requirements, as well as those of other providers operating within your service area.
As your company begins to port, LNP business rules are essential to make sure all carriers are aware of your procedures. Standardized port request forms are on the horizon, and companies must be prepared to use the new forms within the shortened interval. JSI designs company-specific business rules to make sure clients are porting within the regulations. As the FCC's policymaking indicates, the LNP rules are not static, so we also offer LNP refresher courses to provide an overview of the porting process and rules, such as the new one-business-day interval for simple ports that begins for JSI clients on Feb. 2, 2011.
The time is soon coming when competitors will be porting out your customers under the new rules. Take advantage of JSI's decade of LNP experience to demonstrate anew that timing is everything and that you are porting within your limitations and fully compliant with all the rules.
Carrier Identification Code (CIC) Management
Companies must file a myriad of FCC, North American Numbering Plan Administration (NANPA), and other numbering reports with various industry agencies. Every year, however, one filing, the Carrier Identification Code (CIC) report, seems to get lost in the shuffle. Failure to submit this report could lead to NANPA's reclamation of your CIC. The FCC requires all telecom providers (LECs, wireless, and long-distance) that are assigned a CIC to submit semi-annual CIC Entity Access and Usage reports to NANPA to assist in CIC administration. The reports are due to NANPA by January 31 and July 31, each year. To assist clients in meeting CIC compliance and reporting requirements, JSI offers a CIC Management Service. JSI works with your company, managing the required semi-annual reporting process and ensuring the CIC(s) assigned to your company comply with FCC and NANPA guidelines.
